Wildfire Status:

The Clair Fire, a lightning-caused wildfire located in the Sonoran Desert, has burned approximately 2,170 acres, with 98% of its perimeter contained as of August 21, 2024. The fire, situated 25 miles north of Scottsdale and south of Horseshoe Lake on the Cave Creek Ranger District, has shown minimal smoldering activity recently, primarily due to favorable weather conditions, including recent precipitation that has rendered the grass fuels less flammable.

Firefighting efforts have involved a total of 14 personnel, with Type 4 incident commanders managing the situation. The operational focus has shifted towards monitoring the fire, initiating suppression repair, and preparing for resource demobilization. As of August 12, command of the operation was transferred to the Tonto National Forest, indicating a structured approach to managing multiple nearby incidents.

Current weather conditions are expected to remain stable over the coming week, with afternoon temperatures reaching around 110°F. Despite these high temperatures, no significant movement of the fire perimeter is anticipated in the next 72 hours, thanks in part to the heavy load of grass and desert scrub in the area, which has reduced the fire’s potential for spread. However, North Lake Road remains closed as a precautionary measure to protect public safety.
