Wildfire Status:

The Clair Fire, which ignited on August 4, 2024, is currently burning in the Sonoran Desert, approximately 25 miles north of Scottsdale, Arizona. The fire has consumed an area of 2,170 acres and is reported to be 98% contained. Firefighters are actively monitoring the situation, with minimal smoldering activity observed. The incident is being managed by Type 4 incident commanders from the Cave Creek Ranger District, and as of the latest update, 14 personnel are involved in the firefighting efforts.

In terms of fire behavior, there has been little movement outside the current footprint of the fire, thanks in part to recent precipitation and elevated relative humidity, which have rendered the grass fuels less likely to carry fire. The fuels involved include short grass and brush, with a heavy load of grass mixed with desert scrub. The North Lake Road remains closed as a precautionary measure.

Weather conditions are expected to remain stable over the next week, with afternoon highs nearing 110°F. However, no significant fire activity is anticipated in the immediate future, and planned actions include monitoring the fire, beginning suppression repair, and continuing the demobilization of resources. The command of the incident was transferred to the Tonto National Forest on August 12, 2024, indicating a shift in management strategy as the situation stabilizes. Overall, the outlook remains positive, with no expected movement of the fire outside of its current perimeter.
