Wildfire Status:

The Bartlett Fire, a lightning-caused wildfire located approximately 25 miles northeast of Scottsdale and west of Bartlett Lake in the Cave Creek Ranger District, currently spans approximately 6,161 acres. As of August 21, 2024, the fire is 98% contained, with minimal active fire behavior reported due to recent rainfall and increased relative humidity. The fire has been mostly smoldering, and no significant movement is expected outside of its existing footprint in the immediate future.

Fire response efforts are being led by Type 4 incident commanders from the Cave Creek Ranger District, with a total of 14 personnel actively managing the situation. The command of the fire was transferred to the Tonto National Forest on August 12, 2024. Planned actions include continued monitoring of the fire and demobilization of resources, while ensuring initial attack capabilities remain in place if needed.

Current weather conditions are stable, with afternoon temperatures expected to approach 110°F over the next week. Despite the heat, the recent precipitation has made the grass fuels less available for combustion, significantly reducing fire activity. A forest closure order is in effect, restricting access to certain areas around Bartlett Lake to ensure public safety, while emergency managers continue to coordinate with local agencies to address the needs of the community affected by the fire.
