Billy Fire
Wildfire Status:
The Billy Fire is currently an active wildfire located on the Tonto National Forest, approximately 15 miles south of Young, Arizona. The fire, which was sparked by lightning, has consumed about 752 acres, and as of the latest update, no portion of the perimeter has been contained. Firefighters are employing a full suppression strategy, focusing on the eastern side of the Sierra Ancha Mountains near Billy Lawrence Overlook.
In response to the fire, the Central West Zone Type 3 Incident Management Team has been activated to manage the situation, with command officially transferring on July 14, 2025. Currently, there are 138 personnel assigned to the incident, and efforts are ongoing to evaluate potential holding features and assess structures that may be threatened. While fire behavior moderated recently due to overcast skies and increased humidity, officials remain vigilant as thunderstorms could influence fire activity.
Weather conditions have presented challenges, with a very dry winter and ongoing drought contributing to the fire's potential for spread. The forecast indicates that similar fire activity is expected unless significant weather changes occur. Firefighters continue to monitor conditions closely and are prepared to adapt their strategies as necessary to protect both public safety and the surrounding environment.
