Wildfire Status:

The Bartlett Fire, a lightning-caused wildfire, is currently active in the Sonoran Desert, located about 25 miles northeast of Scottsdale and west of Bartlett Lake on the Cave Creek Ranger District. As of August 21, 2024, the fire has burned approximately 6,161 acres and is reported to be 98% contained. Current fire activity is minimal, with the situation characterized by smoldering and little movement beyond the existing footprint. Firefighting efforts have been aided by recent rainfall and elevated relative humidity, which have made the grass fuels less available to carry fire.

Fire response is being managed by Type 4 incident commanders from the local ranger districts, with a total of 14 personnel currently assigned to the Bartlett Fire. The command of the fire was transferred to the Tonto National Forest on August 12, 2024. Planned actions include continued monitoring of the fire, initial attack readiness, and demobilization of resources. The fire team is actively coordinating with local emergency management and law enforcement to address safety concerns, particularly for residents near Bartlett Lake.

Weather conditions in the area pose some concerns, with temperatures expected to remain stable and reach highs of nearly 110°F over the next week. However, the recent precipitation has significantly mitigated the fire's potential for growth. A forest closure order is in effect, restricting access to certain areas around Bartlett Lake to ensure public safety during this ongoing incident.
