Wildfire Status:

The Bartlett Fire, a lightning-caused wildfire located approximately 25 miles northeast of Scottsdale, Arizona, is currently active and has burned 6,161 acres in the Sonoran Desert. As of August 21, 2024, containment efforts have been highly successful, with 98% of the perimeter secured. The fire, which originated on August 4, 2024, has been characterized by minimal fire activity, primarily smoldering due to recent rainfall and increased relative humidity, which have rendered the grass fuels largely unavailable to carry fire.

Fire response efforts are being coordinated by Type 4 incident commanders from the Cave Creek Ranger District, with a total of 14 personnel actively involved in managing the situation. The incident command has recently been transferred to the Tonto National Forest on August 12, 2024. Planned actions in the coming days include continued monitoring of the fire, provision for initial attack if necessary, and the ongoing demobilization of resources. There are no expected movements outside of the fire's existing footprint for at least the next 72 hours, allowing for a controlled management approach.

Current weather conditions pose some challenges, with afternoon temperatures expected to hover around 110°F over the next week. However, the recent precipitation has significantly reduced fire activity, providing a favorable outlook for containment efforts. Additionally, a forest closure order is in effect, restricting access to certain areas around Bartlett Lake to ensure safety while the fire remains under control. Coordination with local authorities, including the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, is ongoing to address the needs of nearby residents and ensure public safety.
