2024 - Preacher Fire - TNF (AZTNF)

Wildfire Status:

The Preacher Fire, located approximately four miles northeast of Pine, Arizona, is currently 100% contained. This lightning-caused wildfire, which began on August 28, 2024, has burned an area of 3,167 acres. The Tonto National Forest is managing the fire under a confine and contain strategy, aiming to protect nearby communities including Tonto Village, Thompson Draw, Diamond Point Summer Homes, and Diamond Point Estates, while also reintroducing fire into a fire-dependent ecosystem. The strategy intends to reduce hazardous fuels and improve watershed conditions and wildlife habitat, thereby minimizing the risk of future high-severity fires.

As of now, there are no personnel actively fighting the fire, indicating that the situation has stabilized significantly. The current fuels involved include dormant brush, hardwood slash, and Ponderosa pine litter, with minimal fire activity reported. Isolated smoldering continues, but smoke production remains low. Firefighters have been conducting periodic area patrols to monitor the situation, and no significant events are noted at this time.

Weather conditions have been favorable for suppression efforts, contributing to the fire's containment. The area is experiencing minimal smoke production, which should continue in the near future. Moving forward, planned actions include continued monitoring and patrols by resources from the West Fire as they ensure the fire remains contained.
