Wildfire Status:

The Preacher Fire, a lightning-caused wildfire, is currently burning approximately four miles northeast of Pine, Arizona, covering an area of 3,167 acres. As of now, the fire is 90% contained. Fire management is being conducted under a confine and contain strategy, with the primary objective of protecting private lands and communities such as Tonto Village, Thompson Draw, Diamond Point Summer Homes, and Diamond Point Estates. This strategy aims to reintroduce fire into a fire-dependent ecosystem, which will help reduce hazardous fuel accumulations and improve watershed conditions and wildlife habitats, ultimately mitigating the risk of future high-severity fires.

The response to the fire is being coordinated by the Southwest Complex Incident Management Team 3, which is also managing the nearby West Fire. Firefighters are continuing to monitor the situation, focusing on suppression repair work and managing isolated smoldering within the fire area. Current fire activity is characterized by minimal smoke production, with crews working to finalize ignition operations in specific areas to aid in fire management efforts.

Weather conditions over the coming days are expected to be slightly below normal, with highs ranging from 74 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit and south-southwest winds of 5 to 10 mph, gusting up to 20 mph. Humidity levels will be relatively low, between 18% and 28%, which may influence fire behavior. Overall, the situation is stable, with fire agencies effectively managing the fire's impact while working towards complete containment.
