2024 - Preacher Fire - TNF (AZTNF)

Wildfire Status:

The Preacher Fire, a lightning-caused wildfire located approximately four miles northeast of Pine, Arizona, is currently 100% contained as of September 24, 2024. The fire, which has burned a total area of 3,167 acres, is being managed under a confine and contain strategy aimed at protecting private lands and nearby communities, including Tonto Village and Diamond Point Estates. The management strategy also focuses on reintroducing fire into a fire-dependent ecosystem, with goals to reduce hazardous fuels and improve watershed conditions and wildlife habitat.

Fire agencies have implemented a coordinated response under the Southwest Complex Incident Management Team 3, led by Incident Commander Tadd Fagerud. Although the fire is now contained, the team continues to conduct area patrols to monitor for isolated smoldering and ensure that any remaining hotspots are managed effectively. Currently, there are no personnel actively engaged on the ground, as the fire's significant events have diminished to minimal smoldering with very little smoke production.

Weather conditions are warm and dry, contributing to the fire's management strategy. High temperatures are expected to range from the mid-70s to upper 80s, with relative humidity levels between 15% and 25%. Light winds from the west or southwest will prevail over the coming days. These conditions are conducive to monitoring the fire's residual effects and minimizing the risk of flare-ups as the dry season progresses.
