Wildfire Status:

The Clair Fire, a lightning-caused wildfire, is currently active in the Sonoran Desert, located approximately 25 miles north of Scottsdale, Arizona. As of August 21, 2024, the fire has burned an area of 2,170 acres and is reported to be 98% contained. The fire has exhibited minimal activity recently, with only smoldering spots noted and no significant fire behavior expected due to the recent precipitation and elevated humidity levels, which have rendered the grass fuels less likely to carry fire.

In terms of response, a total of 14 personnel are currently assigned to the Clair Fire, under the command of Type 4 incident commanders from the Cave Creek Ranger District. The Tonto National Forest has taken over command of this incident, along with several others in the area, as of August 12, 2024. Planned actions include ongoing fire monitoring, initiation of suppression repair, and preparation for initial attack operations if needed. There is no anticipated movement of the fire outside its current footprint for at least the next 72 hours, providing some stability to the situation.

Weather conditions remain a concern, with forecasted temperatures reaching highs close to 110°F over the next week. However, the air moisture and recent rain have helped mitigate the fire's potential for spread. As a precaution, North Lake Road remains closed to ensure public safety while monitoring continues. The focus for fire agencies will be on maintaining containment and managing the resources effectively as the situation evolves.
