2024 - Point Fire (AZTNF)

Wildfire Status:

The Point Fire, a human-caused wildfire currently under investigation, is actively burning 5 miles northeast of New River near West Point Mountain. As of September 14, 2024, the fire has grown to 5,664 acres with 42% of its perimeter contained. Firefighters are facing challenging conditions as they work in rocky and difficult terrain, but all firelines are reportedly holding. While there are no communities immediately threatened, the public is advised to avoid Forest Road 41 and the Cottonwood (Spur Cross) Trailhead during suppression efforts, and to remain vigilant about fire updates.

Fire response includes a total of 12 personnel and 6 fire engines on the scene, with additional resources on order. Firefighters continue to patrol and monitor the fire perimeter throughout the day, and residents in the area are encouraged to stay informed through local emergency alerts and updates. Minimal smoke may be visible along Spur Cross drainage, but overall, the situation remains stable.

Current weather conditions are characterized by plentiful sunshine and high temperatures reaching 104°F, with winds blowing from the southwest at 10 to 20 mph. Dry and windy weather is a concern for fire behavior; however, rain is forecasted for the upcoming Sunday and Monday, which could assist firefighting efforts.
