Wildfire Status:

The Fall Fire, reported on September 28, 2024, in the Gila River Indian Community, has burned through 553 acres of salt cedar and mesquite in the Salt River bottom. The fire posed a significant threat to approximately 10 homes, prompting evacuation orders for areas west of Santa Cruz Road. As of October 5, 2024, the fire has been fully contained, with fire agencies successfully establishing a perimeter around the affected area. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

In response to the fire, fire agencies implemented full suppression strategies, including air attack measures. A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) was also established over the fire area to facilitate firefighting operations. This robust response was critical in mitigating the fire's spread and protecting local communities.

Weather conditions during the event were challenging, with temperatures soaring to 108 degrees Fahrenheit and extremely dry conditions, which likely contributed to the fire's rapid growth initially. However, the successful containment efforts by the incident command, led by the BIA Pima River Agency, have effectively brought the situation under control. Moving forward, fire agencies will continue to monitor the area to ensure no flare-ups occur and to assess the long-term environmental impact of the fire.
