Wildfire Status:

The Wood Fire, which is currently active in the Globe Ranger District near Superior, Arizona, has burned approximately 7,211 acres and is 45% contained. The fire originated from natural lightning strikes and has merged with another fire, now collectively referred to as the Wood Fire. Firefighters are actively engaged in managing the situation, focusing on protecting infrastructure and minimizing impacts to the surrounding area. The fire is burning in rugged, remote terrain that was previously affected by the 2021 Telegraph Fire, which has altered the local ecology and created conditions conducive to frequent wildfire activity.

Weather conditions have been moderately favorable for firefighting efforts, with lower temperatures, increased humidity, and scattered rain reported. However, the region is experiencing temperatures in the low to mid-90s with no significant rain forecasted for the next ten days. Despite these moderate conditions, the rugged terrain complicates firefighting efforts, making it difficult for personnel to access certain areas. As a result, fire managers are relying on aerial resources to monitor the fire's progression in less accessible locations.

Fire managers plan to continue focusing on protecting key values at risk, such as private property and utility lines, particularly along State Route 177. The public is encouraged to remain informed about evacuation notifications through Arizona’s Ready, Set, Go emergency system and to understand the importance of defensible space. The Wood Fire's activity will continue to be monitored closely, and updates will be provided as necessary.
