2024 - West Fire - TNF (AZTNF)

Wildfire Status:

The West Fire, a lightning-caused wildfire, is currently active four miles northeast of Pine, Arizona. As of now, the fire has burned an area of approximately 7,598 acres, with only 12% of its perimeter contained. Fire management teams are employing a confine and contain strategy aimed at protecting local communities, including Camp Geronimo, Geronimo Estates, and Bray Creek Ranch. This approach seeks to reintroduce fire into a fire-dependent ecosystem, reducing hazardous fuel loads and improving watershed and wildlife habitat conditions, ultimately decreasing the risk of more severe future fires.

Firefighters have been actively engaged in ignitions along the West Fire, successfully backfiring to control its spread. Recent operations included nighttime ignitions near Bray Creek Ranch, allowing crews to manage fire behavior effectively.
