Wildfire Status:

The Mineral Fire is an active wildfire located approximately 7 miles southeast of Dorena, Oregon. It started on July 18th and has merged with other fires such as Adam Mountain, Puddin, Quartz, Jack Saddle, White Creek, and Mineral Fires on July 28, 2024. The fire is currently 1,201 acres in size with 0% containment. The incident commander is Michael Cheek from the North Carolina Forest Service.

The current weather conditions have seen a deeper marine layer push resulting in morning stratus and excellent overnight humidity recoveries. Seasonable temperatures and light northwesterly winds around 5-10 mph are reported on the incident. Tonight, humidity recovery over 90% is expected with light winds and terrain-driven flows.

Planned actions include scouting out existing roads and establishing containment lines, protecting natural/cultural values, and ensuring public safety. The fire is currently exhibiting moderate to active behavior, including backing and flanking fire driven by terrain and fuels. The outlook for the next 72 hours anticipates minimal growth due to a brief weather pattern change, but a return to warmer and drier conditions may increase fire activity.
