Willamette Complex Fires - South (ORWIF)

Wildfire Status:

The Willamette Complex Fires-South, previously known as the Oakridge Lightning Fires, are currently active in the Willamette National Forest, spanning from 8 miles north to 22 miles south-southeast of Oakridge, Oregon. Following a severe lightning storm on July 17, which produced over 1,100 strikes across the state, multiple fires ignited, including the Chalk, McKinley, Tire Mountain, Moss Mountain, Coffeepot, and 208 Fires. As of now, the Chalk, Coffeepot, Tire Mountain, and McKinley Fires have been fully contained, while the Moss Mountain Fire is 10% contained and the 208 Fire is only 4% contained, with a total area impacted of approximately 23,309 acres.

Fire response efforts have mobilized a total of 538 personnel to manage the ongoing situation, with heavy timber in the area presenting significant challenges to containment. Fire crews are working diligently to establish control lines and mitigate the spread of the more active fires, especially the 208 and Moss Mountain Fires. Additionally, the Forest Service has enacted closure orders in three areas of the Willamette National Forest to ensure safety for both the public and firefighting personnel.

Recent weather conditions have introduced some relief, as high-level clouds have indicated the arrival of additional moisture across the fire complex area. This could aid firefighting efforts, particularly in reducing fire intensity. However, vigilance remains crucial as fire agencies continue to monitor the situation closely, and residents and visitors are encouraged to avoid wildfire areas and refrain from campfires until further notice.
