North Willamette Complex (ORWIF)

Wildfire Status:

The North Willamette Complex, comprising multiple wildfires including the Boulder Creek, Linton Creek, and 374 Fires, is currently burning in the Willamette National Forest, situated northeast of Blue River and southeast of Oak Ridge. The complex has a total area of approximately 5,492 acres, with varying containment statuses. The Boulder Creek Fire is reported to be 84% contained, affecting 523 acres; the Ore Fire has been fully contained at 3,485 acres; however, the Linton Creek and 374 Fires remain at 0% containment, with 1,310 acres and 98 acres impacted respectively. The fires were ignited by lightning, except for the Ore Fire, which was human-caused.

Firefighting efforts involve a total of 315 personnel currently engaged in containment and suppression operations. The terrain consists of heavy timber litter, conifer trees, and significant amounts of downed fuel, presenting challenges for fire control. The area has a mix of closed timber litter and understory vegetation, which influences fire behavior. Minimal fire activity has been noted, characterized predominantly by backing, creeping, and flanking, indicating a slow spread.

Weather conditions are critical to the firefighting operations, with moist seasonally live fuels contributing to reduced fire spread rates. However, the presence of large snags and heavy fuel loadings complicates the situation. The incident commander, Nate Orsburn, has noted that significant updates on the wildfire will be posted as needed, especially following the transfer of command scheduled for September 28, 2024. As of now, the firefighting agencies continue to monitor and manage the situation closely, adapting strategies based on evolving fuel conditions and fire behavior.
