Wildfire Status:

The Courtrock Fire, ignited by a lightning strike on July 21, 2024, is currently situated south of Monument, Oregon, and west of Long Creek. As of now, the fire has burned approximately 20,019 acres and is reported to be 97% contained, indicating significant progress in suppression efforts. Full suppression tactics are actively being employed, with fire management teams working diligently to secure the area. Fortunately, evacuation orders have been lifted, allowing residents to return safely to their homes.

In response to the fire, the Malheur National Forest has implemented an area closure on the Blue Mountain Ranger District to ensure public safety and facilitate fire suppression operations. The closure restricts access to the vicinity of the fire, which is critical during ongoing suppression activities. Fire management officials are encouraging the public to adhere to fire restrictions and take preventative measures to reduce the risk of wildfires.

Weather conditions are a crucial factor in the firefighting efforts. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms, coupled with occasional lightning and gusty winds, have been forecasted, which could pose challenges for containment operations. However, recent reports indicate that reduced fire activity has led to moderate air quality in central Oregon, providing some relief to affected communities. As firefighting efforts continue, officials remain vigilant, preparing for the possibility of new fires emerging in the region as the summer progresses.
