Battle Mountain Complex (OR97S)

Wildfire Status:

The Battle Mountain Complex wildfire, located west and south of Ukiah, Oregon, has been active since July 17, 2024. It includes the North Fork Owens and Monkey Creek Fires, which merged with the Snake Fire and Boneyard Fire in late July. As of August 20, 2024, the fire has burned approximately 183,026 acres and is currently 94% contained. The incident is being managed by the Southwest Area Management Team, led by Incident Commander Matt Rau, with a total of 490 personnel assigned to the effort.

Fire behavior has been primarily limited to smoldering, particularly in the canyons on the northern edge of the fire. Recent weather conditions have been mostly sunny, with high temperatures ranging from the lower 70s to mid-80s. Afternoon humidity has dropped to between 15-20%, and winds have been light, shifting from variable in the morning to northwest in the afternoon, with gusts reaching up to 25 mph. These conditions have contributed to minimal growth in the fire area, and no significant flare-ups are expected in the immediate future.

Firefighting efforts currently focus on improving control lines, monitoring the situation, and conducting suppression-repair work throughout the fire area. With minimal fire activity anticipated over the next few days, crews are primarily engaged in monitoring and repairing existing lines to prevent future spread. The estimated containment date is set for August 31, 2024, as officials remain vigilant in their response to any changes in fire behavior or activity.
