Paramount Fire (NMGNF)

Wildfire Status:

The Paramount Fire, located approximately 19 miles west of Winston, New Mexico, was reported on July 12, 2024. Spanning an area of 1,335 acres, the fire is currently fully contained, with 100% of its perimeter secured. This confine and contain strategy has been implemented in response to the fire's positioning within the Indian Peaks planning area and the existing road network, allowing fire management teams to strategically manage the situation while minimizing risks to personnel. The incident is being overseen by Incident Commander Wade Grisenti, with a small team of five personnel actively monitoring the fire's behavior.

The fire is primarily burning through mixed vegetation, including grass, brush, ponderosa pine, oak, and pinyon-juniper. While the containment lines are secure and firing actions are complete, the interior of the fire perimeter is still smoldering in heavy dead and down materials. Fire management strategies are focused on maintaining containment features and ongoing monitoring of the fire's activity to ensure it remains within the established boundaries.

Weather conditions over the next week are expected to include monsoonal moisture and daily thunderstorms, which may influence fire behavior.
