Patterson Fire (NMSCD)

Wildfire Status:

The Patterson Fire, currently active in Catron County, New Mexico, has burned approximately 2 acres since its start on June 9, 2025. The fire is located east of Aragon and is threatening private residences about 1-2 miles to the west, as well as electric transmission lines approximately 900 yards to the north. As of now, no evacuations have been ordered, but fire agencies are closely monitoring the situation.

In response to the fire, a total of four engines, the Gila Interagency Hotshots, and a helicopter have been deployed to combat the blaze. Despite these efforts, the fire remains uncontained, with 0 percent of its perimeter secured as of the latest updates. The incident is under the command of BLM Incident Commander Dane Everett, who is coordinating the firefighting efforts.

Weather conditions in the area are presenting challenges for fire control. Tonight, there is a slight chance of thunderstorms, which could lead to strong downdrafts that may exacerbate the fire situation. The temperature is expected to drop to around 53 degrees Fahrenheit, with light and variable winds becoming predominant after midnight. Smoke from the fire may be visible from Highway 12, and those with respiratory issues are advised to take precautions. As the situation develops, fire agencies will continue to assess both the fire's behavior and the surrounding weather conditions to ensure the safety of nearby residents and infrastructure.
