Wildfire Status:

The Greer Fire, which ignited on May 13, 2025, near Greer, Arizona, has now reached an estimated size of 20,308 acres. As of the latest updates, the fire has been fully contained, with 100% of its perimeter secured. The fire, driven by winds, initially spread east and northeast through grass and pinyon-juniper terrain. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Firefighting efforts have involved approximately 50 personnel who have focused on extensive suppression repair work over the past few days. With minimal activity reported, the fire has transitioned into a state of isolated smoldering, and no perimeter growth is anticipated. Crews continue to patrol the fire's perimeter and are conducting inspections of the suppression repair work that has been completed. The projected containment date for the fire was set for May 27, 2025.

Weather conditions have played a significant role in the fire's behavior. Current fuel conditions show that predominant fuels include short grass and ponderosa pine litter, with approximately 80% foliar moisture in shrubs and trees. This moisture content, along with the absence of significant greenup in herbaceous and woody shrub fuels, has contributed to the reduced fire activity and minimal smoke production. As operations shift toward long-term recovery, crews will continue to focus on repairing dozer lines and patrolling the area, ensuring the safety of surrounding structures and communities.
