Wildfire Status:

The Turkeyfeather Fire, which ignited on June 30, 2025, in the northern Gila Wilderness, is currently active and has expanded to encompass approximately 3,250 acres. As of the latest report on July 7, 2025, the fire remains entirely uncontained, with 0% of its perimeter secured. The fire's most aggressive activity has been observed on its southwestern corner near Turkeyfeather Mountain, where strong winds from thunderstorms have driven significant growth, especially into areas affected by previous burns.

Fire agencies, including the U.S. Forest Service, have deployed a total of 29 personnel to combat the blaze. Incident Commander Aaron Jones is overseeing the operations, which include establishing camps for fire crews and scouting for strategic points to protect nearby values. The estimated containment date for the fire is set for July 31, 2025, although this may change based on fire behavior and weather conditions.

Current weather forecasts predict daily scattered thunderstorms in the mountains, potentially affecting fire behavior. The temperature is expected to rise, with lowland areas reaching between 100 and 105 degrees by Thursday. Relative humidity levels are anticipated to drop into the upper teens in the lowlands and remain in the 20s and 30s in the mountains. Winds are expected to average around 15 miles per hour, contributing to the fire's potential for further growth, particularly in the absence of significant rainfall.
