Buck Fire (NMADO)

Wildfire Status:

The Buck Fire, which ignited on June 11, 2025, due to a lightning strike from thunderstorm activity, is currently active and has expanded to approximately 23,000 acres. The fire is exhibiting moderate to high activity and has spread to the north over Pelona Mountain, threatening private residences located about 1.5 miles northwest and 1 mile east of the fire's origin. As of now, no additional structures are reported to be at risk, but live electric transmission lines are in proximity to the blaze.

Firefighting efforts are being coordinated by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) with an Albuquerque Zone Type 3 management team in place. As of the latest updates, the fire has not yet been contained, with 0% of the perimeter secured. A total of approximately 100 personnel are actively engaged in suppressing the fire, utilizing both ground and aerial resources to combat the flames on all active fronts.

Current weather conditions are a significant concern, as hotter and drier conditions are forecasted to continue through the weekend, potentially exacerbating the fire's spread. Smoke may be visible from nearby highways, and individuals with respiratory issues are urged to take precautions. Evacuations have been implemented in the Garcia Camp area on the southeast corner of the fire, and the public is advised to avoid the vicinity of the fire for safety reasons.
