Wildfire Status:

The Trout Fire, reported on June 12, 2025, in the Trout Creek area of the Gila National Forest, has rapidly grown and currently spans approximately 5,234 acres with 0% of its perimeter contained. The fire's growth has been fueled by hot, dry weather, and it has crossed New Mexico Highway 15, prompting immediate action from fire response teams. Currently, there are 552 personnel on-site, including hot shot crews, type 2 hand crews, and aerial resources such as helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. The command of the incident has transitioned to a complex incident management team, Southwest Team 4, to enhance coordination and effectiveness in tackling the fire.

Fire behavior has been active, with instances of running, short-range spotting, and torching observed. The situation has led to a "go" evacuation order for residents along the New Mexico Highway 35 corridor, particularly between Sapillo Campground and the Highway 15/35 intersection. Additionally, the Gila National Forest has implemented a closure order for areas affected by the fire, restricting public access to ensure safety and facilitate firefighting efforts.

Weather conditions continue to pose challenges for firefighting operations. High temperatures, low relative humidity, and low fuel moisture levels are expected to persist, contributing to elevated fire risks. While light winds are forecasted, stronger breezes are anticipated early next week, which could exacerbate fire conditions. Possible thunderstorms over the weekend may also affect fire behavior. Fire management teams are preparing to take proactive measures, including direct attacks on the western edge of the fire and establishing indirect lines for protection in the Lake Roberts area.
