Paradise Fire (NMGNF)

Wildfire Status:

The Paradise Fire, located approximately 13 miles south of Quemado, New Mexico, has burned an area of 727 acres since it was first reported on May 26, 2025. As of the latest updates, the fire is 92% contained, thanks in part to the efforts of the Gila Las Cruces Type 3 Incident Command Team, which took command of the situation on May 27. The current strategy focuses on full suppression and securing the fire perimeter, with personnel actively engaged in patrolling and monitoring the affected areas.

Fire behavior has been minimal, with observations indicating primarily smoldering conditions. The incident currently employs about 115 personnel who are working diligently to contain the fire. Despite the successful containment, upcoming weather conditions pose potential risks, as thunderstorms are forecasted for early and late Monday, accompanied by gusty outflow winds and lightning, which could affect operational safety and fire behavior.

Firefighters are also preparing to support the forest with initial attack measures on any new fire starts while continuing to implement suppression repair efforts. Overall, the situation appears stable, with no expected fire spread beyond established firelines, allowing teams to focus on ensuring complete containment and managing any emerging threats from the changing weather.
