Goose Fire (NMGNF)

Wildfire Status:

The Goose Fire, currently active in New Mexico, has burned approximately 800 acres since it was ignited by lightning on July 9, 2025. As of the latest update on July 14, containment efforts are at 0%. The fire's behavior has been characterized by creeping, flanking, and isolated torching, particularly on its north and east sides, while movement on the south and west sides has been minimal. Firefighting personnel, numbering around 75, are actively engaged in full suppression efforts to combat the fire, with strategies focused on protecting critical areas, such as keeping the fire north of Dorsey Canyon.

The Albuquerque Zone Type 3 Incident Management Team, led by Incident Commander Lino Baca, has taken command of the firefighting operations. Current weather conditions are conducive to fire activity, with timber and brush serving as the primary fuels involved. Firefighters are preparing trails and roads to enhance access and control. The situation is being closely monitored, and preparations are underway to adapt strategies as needed based on ongoing assessments of the fire's behavior and potential spread.
