Wildfire Status:

The Parks Fire, currently active in the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness, has burned approximately 5,884 acres and is primarily active on the southwest side near Queen Creek. The fire is making its way towards the previously burned Highline Fire area, which is expected to moderate its behavior as it transitions into that region. The geographical spread includes areas from the west side of lower Chamberlain Creek to the Salmon River, and extends to Mule Creek Point ridge, moving southwest into Mule Creek.

Fire management teams have implemented structure protection measures, notably wrapping the Artic Point Lookout facility to prevent damage. Fortunately, fire managers do not anticipate the fire reaching this lookout. Additional protective work has also been completed at the Chamberlain Creek Bridge. The strategy being employed is a Zone/Point protection approach, allowing the lightning-caused fire to fulfill its ecological role in the wilderness setting while ensuring the safety of nearby structures.

As of now, there are no area or trail closures associated with the Parks Fire. However, visitors to the area are advised to remain vigilant for potential fire-related hazards. For those with inquiries about rafting conditions along the Salmon River, the Salmon-Challis National Forest River Desk can be contacted at 208-481-2625. Weather conditions and other factors are being monitored to support ongoing fire management efforts, ensuring both public safety and ecological considerations are addressed.
