Parks Fire (IDPAF)

Wildfire Status:

The Parks Fire, currently active in the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness, has burned approximately 5,978 acres. The fire is located on the west side of lower Chamberlain Creek, extending down to the Salmon River and up to Mule Creek Point Ridge. Following a cold front on October 4th, which brought strong gusty winds that intensified the fire's activity on its southwest flank, the fire has shown little to no growth in recent weeks. A weather system forecasted for the upcoming weekend is anticipated to further mitigate the fire's potential for expansion.

Fire response efforts have been effective, with monitoring indicating favorable conditions across the burn area. Protection measures for the Chamberlain bridge have been lifted, and firefighters have confirmed that the nearby Arctic Point Lookout remains undamaged. The fire management strategy employed is a Zone/Point protection approach, allowing the fire to fulfill its natural ecological role while ensuring the safety of critical structures.
