Shingle (IDNCF)

Wildfire Status:

The Shingle wildfire, currently spanning approximately 100 acres, originated from a prescribed fire that experienced a rollout in steep, inaccessible terrain near Shingle Creek. This incident, which began on May 5, 2025, has been formally classified as a wildfire, prompting fire management teams to mobilize resources and appoint a Type 3 Incident Commander, Shawn Pierson, to oversee suppression efforts. At this time, there is no immediate threat to life or property, but proactive measures are being taken to contain the fire before the arrival of warmer and drier conditions.

Fire management's strategy includes building containment lines both directly and indirectly to prevent the fire's spread. Teams are utilizing existing roads, handlines, and mechanical lines, along with leveraging previous harvest activities in the area to establish control. Crews and equipment have been dispatched to ensure effective suppression and minimize any potential impact to nearby private properties. Recent rain in the region has provided some relief, and indirect equipment lines have been completed, allowing for some demobilization of resources.

Weather conditions are currently favorable for firefighting efforts, with a broad trough influencing the region, resulting in cooler temperatures and showery conditions expected to persist through the week.
