Shingle (IDNCF)
100 acre wildfire
McCall, Idaho, United States
Shingle
Wildfire Status:
The Shingle wildfire, currently spanning approximately 100 acres, originated from a prescribed fire unit on the Windy Shingle area, where burning materials spread into a steep and inaccessible region of Shingle Creek. As of May 5, 2025, the situation has escalated to a wildfire, prompting fire management to initiate a response. A Type 3 Incident Commander, Shawn Pierson, along with additional resources, has been deployed to confine, control, and suppress the fire effectively. Fortunately, there is no immediate threat to life or property at this time, but proactive measures are being taken to mitigate potential risks as weather conditions become warmer and drier.
Fire management strategies include building both direct and indirect containment lines to prevent further spread of the fire. Crews are utilizing a combination of roads, handlines, and previous harvest activities to manage the fire’s perimeter effectively. The incident command team is maintaining a continuous presence in the area to monitor any changes in fire activity and respond promptly to current and anticipated conditions. Recent rainfall has aided in suppression efforts, and equipment has been demobilized after establishing indirect equipment lines.
Current weather conditions are characterized by a broad trough influencing the region, resulting in cooler and showery weather that is expected to persist through the week. This outlook provides a favorable environment for suppression efforts as fire agencies remain vigilant in their operations to ensure the wildfire is fully contained and does not pose a threat to nearby communities or resources.
