Wildfire Status:

The Farrow Fire, currently spanning 3,637 acres, was first detected on August 5th and is believed to have been caused by lightning. Initially located approximately 5.5 miles east-southeast of Cold Meadows Guard Station, the fire saw a notable increase in activity following a cold front that passed over the area on October 4th. The flames spread southwest towards the South Fork of Cottonwood Creek and into the upper drainage of Iodine Creek. However, since that initial spread, the fire has been gradually expanding with low burn intensity, and forecasts suggest minimal growth potential due to an impending weather system expected to further restrict the fire's activity.

As of now, the fire is located about 2.5 miles from the Cold Meadows Guard Station, where all structure protection measures have been removed. Fire management has adopted a strategy allowing the fire to fulfill its ecological role within the Wilderness, with air monitoring in place to assess its impact. While there are currently no area or trail closures due to the fire, it is advised that visitors to the region remain vigilant for fire-related hazards.

The response from fire agencies has been primarily observational, focusing on monitoring the fire's behavior and effects on the natural environment. Zone and Point Protection measures are prepared to be implemented if necessary, depending on the fire's activity. The situation remains dynamic, with updates expected as new information becomes available.
