Wildfire Status:
The Farrow Fire, currently affecting an area of 3,637 acres, has shown a decrease in activity since its detection on August 5th, which was caused by lightning. Initially, the fire spread rapidly after a cold front passed over on October 4th, pushing flames southwest towards the South Fork of Cottonwood Creek and the upper drainage of Iodine Creek. However, recent monitoring indicates that the fire is now spreading slowly with low burn intensity and no significant growth potential expected in the near future. A favorable weather system is anticipated to further limit the fire's potential this weekend.
Fire agencies have adjusted their response accordingly. The fire is currently located approximately 2.5 miles from the Cold Meadows Guard Station, where structure protection equipment has been removed as a precautionary measure. The management strategy for this fire aims to allow it to fulfill its natural ecological role within the wilderness area, with Zone/Point Protection measures in place if necessary. Air monitoring continues to ensure the situation remains stable.
Importantly, there are no area or trail closures related to the Farrow Fire at this time. Recreators in the region are advised to remain vigilant for fire-related hazards as they enjoy outdoor activities. The incident remains a focus of monitoring and assessment by fire agencies, who are prepared to take further action if the situation changes.
