Wildfire Status:
The Farrow Fire, currently active and spanning 1,139 acres, has been burning since it was detected on August 5th, 2024. This wildfire, located approximately 5.5 miles east-southeast of the Cold Meadows Guard Station, was sparked by lightning and is exhibiting active fire behavior within Farrow Creek. The ongoing monitoring of the fire has indicated that it is serving a beneficial ecological role within the Wilderness area. Fire agencies are allowing the fire to burn naturally while implementing Zone/Point Protection measures if necessary.
As of now, there are no area or trail closures in effect due to the fire; however, those recreating in the vicinity are advised to remain vigilant for fire-related hazards. The fire is being closely monitored from the air to ensure that it does not escalate beyond manageable levels. Fire agencies are taking a cautious approach, balancing the natural ecological benefits of the fire with the need to protect surrounding areas.
While specific weather conditions affecting the fire have not been detailed, the continued active behavior suggests that conditions are conducive to fire spread. The fire management strategy appears focused on letting the fire fulfill its natural role while being prepared to intervene if the situation changes.
