Foote Fire (AZASF)

Wildfire Status:

The Foote Fire, ignited by lightning on June 14, 2024, is currently active in the remote terrain of the Blue Range Primitive Area in Arizona. The fire has grown to approximately 4,553 acres and continues to burn with low to moderate intensity, primarily consuming dead and down fuels. Fire growth has been moderate, with the fire spreading overnight to the northwest and southeast. Presently, it is located about one mile east of Josh Ranch and three miles east of Blue, Arizona. Fire managers anticipate occasional torching and small fire runs when the flames encounter pockets of heavier fuel loading.

As of now, no part of the fire perimeter has been contained, and 124 personnel are actively engaged in firefighting efforts. The current fire behavior is marked by uphill runs, backing, and creeping, indicating dynamic activity. Fire officials are closely monitoring the situation, particularly assessing Highway 191 for potential burnout operations to control the spread. The forecast indicates continued movement of the fire in all directions over the next 12 to 48 hours.

Weather conditions present challenges, with potential thunderstorm development and associated outflow winds posing risks to firefighting efforts. These conditions could exacerbate fire activity, making it imperative for fire managers to remain vigilant and adapt their strategies accordingly. The incident is being coordinated by Nate Nozie, a Type 3 Incident Commander from the USDA Forest Service, as they work to mitigate the effects of the ongoing wildfire.
