Iron Fire (NMGNF)

Wildfire Status:

The Iron Fire, detected on May 4, 2025, in the Gila Wilderness, has been declared 100% contained as of May 12, 2025. The fire affected an area of approximately 482 acres, situated in Cooper Canyon, near Iron Mesa and Turkeyfeather Mountain. As of May 14, the command of the incident has been officially transferred back to the Gila National Forest, and updates on the fire will no longer be provided. The quick response from firefighting agencies has effectively controlled the blaze, preventing any significant spread or damage beyond the initial containment area.

Fire agencies utilized a range of strategies to combat the Iron Fire, including aerial support and ground crews, which were instrumental in achieving full containment. As the situation stabilized, a wind event was noted on May 13, prompting additional precautions to ensure public safety and monitor potential flare-ups in the area. Despite the recent weather challenges, the coordinated efforts of firefighting teams contributed to the successful management of the incident.
