Crews continue to make steady progress on the No Name Fire, which is nearing containment. As lightning fires from last week wrap up, resources are being reassigned to assist with other active fires or positioned to respond to new starts. The remaining fires from the original 17 have been contained, controlled, or fully extinguished.
On the evening of July 7, a forecasted thunderstorm moved across the forest, bringing additional lightning to the area. As a result, three new lightning-caused fires have been confirmed. Fire crews are actively responding to these new starts. Thunderstorms are in the forecast for Tuesday July 8 in the afternoon and evening.
To aid in detection efforts, staffed fire lookouts remain on high alert, continuously scanning the landscape for smoke. The forest is also utilizing fixed-wing aircraft equipped with infrared sensors to identify any additional ignitions.
Firefighting resources are strategically staged throughout the forest to ensure a rapid response. Crews, engines, aircraft, and overhead personnel have been mobilized from across California—and from as far as Texas, Idaho, and Puerto Rico—to support the Klamath National Forest during this period of elevated fire activity.
