Latest update
On July 31 at 10:00 AM, the Mammoth Fire is now 100% contained, with no change in acreage, leaving the total at 2,533 acres. Today, firefighters will continue securing indirect lines and conducting mop-up operations to ensure the containment lines are secure. However, strong gusty winds could pose a threat to these containment lines as storms are forecasted to move into the area.
A red flag warning has been issued for Modoc County today. Scattered thunderstorms with abundant lightning are expected. While the storms are likely to be wet, lightning strikes outside the areas of precipitation are a concern, as they could ignite new fires. Wind gusts of 35 to 50 mph are anticipated with these storms.
This will be the final update unless significant new activity occurs.
