Jacobson Fire (AZCNF)

Wildfire Status:

The Jacobson Fire, which ignited in the Turkey Flat area of Mount Graham within the Safford Ranger District on the night of March 26, 2025, is currently active and has reached a containment level of 44%. As of the latest updates, the fire covers an area of 8 acres. Firefighting efforts have included the deployment of four hotshot crews, one State of Arizona hand crew, and local resources, totaling around 198 personnel engaged in firefighting operations.

In response to the fire, a Type 3 Incident Management Team has been mobilized, and air support has been initiated. Two Type 1 helicopters are on site to conduct water bucket drops, while Very Large Airtankers (VLAT) and Large Airtankers (LAT) are scheduled to perform retardant drops starting this morning. Night crews have been patrolling the area to monitor fire activity, and infrared flights have mapped hot spots within the perimeter, aiding ground crews in their efforts to combat the fire.

As weather conditions remain dry, firefighters are focusing their attention on containing the remaining hot areas, utilizing helicopters to transport portable water containers for ground crew assistance. Authorities urge the public to avoid the area due to increased fire traffic and ongoing firefighting operations. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
