Jacobson Fire (AZCNF)

Wildfire Status:

The Jacobson Fire, which ignited in the Turkey Flat area of Mount Graham in the Safford Ranger District on the evening of March 26, 2025, is currently active and presents a significant challenge to fire response teams. As of May 27, 2025, the fire has consumed approximately 8 acres, and no containment has been established yet. The incident is under the management of a Type 3 Incident Management Team, with additional resources called in to assist.

Firefighting efforts include the deployment of four hotshot crews, one State of Arizona hand crew, and local resources. Aerial support is also a critical component of the response, with two Type 1 helicopters performing water bucket drops and Very Large Airtankers (VLAT) and Large Airtankers (LAT) scheduled for retardant drops. Despite these efforts, challenges remain due to the steep terrain and rolling rock hazards, which complicate ground operations. Nighttime resources are in place to monitor and respond to potential hazards from burning debris.

Weather conditions will play a crucial role in the ongoing firefighting efforts. The response teams are urging the public to steer clear of the area for their safety and to facilitate the movement of firefighting equipment. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and all personnel involved are focused on mitigating risks while working to gain control over the fire's spread. As of the latest update, a total of 207 personnel are engaged in the firefighting efforts.
