Klamath National Forest July 2025 Lightning (CAKNF)

Wildfire Status:

As of July 2, 2025, the Klamath National Forest is experiencing a significant wildfire event triggered by a series of thunderstorms and lightning strikes that occurred on June 30. Over 3,860 lightning strikes were recorded, leading to the discovery of 14 confirmed fires in the area, with the Summit Fire being the largest at 20 acres. Firefighters are actively engaged in efforts to contain these blazes, utilizing a combination of ground crews, aerial reconnaissance, and infrared detection flights to locate and respond to new fires as they emerge.

The firefighting response is robust, involving resources from across California and additional support from teams as far away as Texas and Idaho. Fire agencies are coordinating their efforts to manage the situation effectively, with some areas currently under evacuation orders due to the proximity of the fires. The Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office has issued evacuation orders for specific zones, and additional areas are under evacuation warnings as a precautionary measure.

Weather conditions are a significant concern, with a Red Flag Warning in effect due to the combination of dry fuels and the threat of more thunderstorms. This warning is expected to remain in place, raising the risk of further fire ignitions and complicating containment efforts.
