The lightning caused Red Canyon fire was reported on Wednesday, August 14th east of Thermopolis, WY in Hot Springs County. The fire is burning on a combination of BLM, state, and private lands. Extreme weather conditions in light dry fuels heightened fire activity and the Red Canyon Fire grew to over 100,000 acres in 4 days.
The Rocky Mountain Complex Incident Management Team 2 assumed command of the fire on Monday August 18th with full-suppression efforts and public and firefighter safety the highest priorities.
Containment continued to increase thanks to the hard work of firefighters. Crews continue to patrol the perimeter of the fire and the majority of suppression repair efforts have been completed.
The Rocky Mountain Complex Incident Management Team 2 would like to sincerely thank our partners, cooperators, and residents for welcoming the team and supporting suppression efforts. Together, we accomplished the mission while maintaining both public and firefighter safety.
