Pomas Fire 2025 (WAOWF)

Wildfire Status:

The Pomas Fire, located in the Glacier Peak Wilderness in Washington State, is currently active and was first reported on June 13, 2025. As of the latest update, the fire has burned approximately 1,060 acres, predominantly in heavy dead and down timber that remains from the 2015 Wolverine Fire. The fire is situated at an elevation of over 5,000 feet and is difficult to access by road, complicating firefighting efforts. Multiple resources, including smokejumpers, rappelers, and hotshot crews, have been deployed to combat the blaze. To date, more than 377,000 gallons of water have been dropped on the fire.

In response to the fire's progression, two crews, three helicopters, and water tenders have been mobilized, totaling approximately 109 personnel on-site. The location of the fire has led to the implementation of closure orders affecting trails, roads, and campgrounds within the Entiat Ranger District of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest to ensure public safety. The fire's cause has been attributed to lightning, and the effort to contain the fire is ongoing.

Weather conditions in the region have played a significant role in the fire's behavior. As it stands, the terrain and dry conditions from previous wildfires have created a challenging environment for containment efforts.
