3,361 acre wildfire
Manson, Washington, United States

Wildfire Status:

The Pomas Fire, which ignited due to lightning in the Glacier Peak Wilderness, was first reported on June 13, 2025. As of now, the fire covers approximately 3,333 acres and continues to burn through heavy fuel loads, including dead and downed timber from the 2015 Wolverine Fire. Smokejumpers and various firefighting crews responded promptly, with nearly 400,000 gallons of water dropped from aircraft in an attempt to suppress the flames. However, the steep and rugged terrain has limited direct access for firefighters, necessitating reliance on air support and the strategic use of hotshot crews.

Firefighters are currently focusing their efforts on the southern flank of the fire, where they are working to halt its southward progress. Despite extensive aerial operations, the fire's growth remains challenging due to the difficult landscape and the ongoing hot, dry weather conditions, which have intensified the fire's activity. In addition to direct fire suppression, crews are establishing backup fire lines and protecting critical infrastructure in the potential path of the fire by creating defensible spaces and deploying sprinklers.

Weather conditions have significantly influenced the fire's behavior, contributing to its rapid expansion. In response to the escalating situation, Chelan County has issued a Level 1 "Stay Alert" evacuation advisement for the community of Holden Village. As firefighting efforts continue, the focus remains on containing the fire while ensuring the safety of both firefighters and residents in the surrounding areas.
