Bear Gulch Fire 2025
Bear Gulch Fire is the 2nd-largest wildfire this season in Washington, burning 30 miles west of Bremerton.
Latest update
On July 6, a human-caused fire was reported in Olympic National Forest near the Mt. Rose Trailhead along the Lake Cushman Corridor. The fire – named the Bear Gulch Fire – is burning on a steep, rocky slope north of Lake Cushman in the Olympic National Forest and near the Staircase area of Olympic National Park.
Management of the Bear Gulch and Tunnel Creek fires will transfer to local fire units on October 11, 2025.
Falling debris across NF 2400 (FS 24) continues to be a primary hazard in the area. Due to this significant safety concern, NF Road 2400 is closed, including access to day use, trailheads and other sites beyond the closure point, at mile marker 10.5. This junction is where the pavement ends and the Forest Service Road into the Staircase area of Olympic National Park begins. Access to Mount Rose Residential Division 2, 3 and 4 remains open.
Updates for this incident will be communicated as notable events occur.
