On September 6, 2025, USFS fire managers were able to assess a new fire start caused by lightning, named the Tunnel Creek Fire, located in a remote area of the Buckhorn Wilderness in Olympic National Forest.

The fire is roughly 10 miles west of Quilcene, Washington and 1.5 miles west of the Tunnel Creek Trailhead accessed from FS Road 2740.
