Wildfire Status:

The Siegel Fire, located approximately 14 miles south of Cheney, Washington, has reached a significant milestone with 93% of its perimeter contained. As of July 7, 2025, the incident is currently classified as being in patrol status following its active suppression efforts. Fire crews are now focusing on the ongoing patrol of the fireline, mopping up hotspots, and completing any necessary rehabilitation of the affected areas. Although the fire has been largely contained, smoke will still be visible in the coming days due to partially and unburned fuels within the fire perimeter, which will continue to smolder.

The fire, which has burned approximately 700 acres, is believed to have been human-caused, though the investigation is still ongoing. The areas affected by the fire experienced what is termed a "dirty burn," where unburned pockets of fuel exist alongside burned areas, but experts believe these pockets are unlikely to spread beyond the established containment lines. Residents are advised that smoke from the interior burning is generally not a concern; however, any observed active burning near the fire's edge should be reported to the Northeast Washington Interagency Communications Center.

Fire agencies have expressed gratitude to the local communities for their support throughout the incident, which has been instrumental to their success. As mop-up operations continue, it is expected that the rehabilitation of the fire area will also proceed, ensuring that the landscape is restored as effectively as possible. The incident is being managed by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in collaboration with Spokane County Fire District 3.
