Wildfire Status:

The Ruby Fire, a lightning-caused wildfire, is currently burning on the slopes of Ruby Mountain in North Cascades National Park, Whatcom County, Washington. As of the latest update, the fire has spread to approximately 1,300 acres and remains completely uncontained, with 0% of its perimeter secured. The incident was first reported on August 9, 2024, and is being managed by Incident Commanders from the U.S. Forest Service. There are currently 36 personnel engaged in firefighting efforts, facing challenges due to the rugged terrain and steep slopes surrounding the fire area.

In response to the Ruby Fire, firefighting teams are strategically positioned to protect nearby values and infrastructure. Planned actions include potential helicopter water drops, contingent on weather conditions and fire behavior. Fire officials have noted light, active fire behavior and smoke. The forecast for the day indicates cooler temperatures with a high of 52°F and northwesterly winds at 6-8 mph, which may assist firefighting efforts.
