Wildfire Status:

The Pomas Fire, located in the Glacier Peak Wilderness of Washington State, was first reported on June 13, 2025. As of June 24, the fire has grown to approximately 1,060 acres and continues to burn in difficult terrain at elevations exceeding 5,000 feet. The area is characterized by heavy dead and down timber, remnants from the 2015 Wolverine Fire, which complicates containment efforts. The fire's cause has been identified as lightning.

Firefighting agencies have mobilized significant resources to combat the blaze. Initial response included smokejumpers, rappelers, and hotshot crews, with over 377,000 gallons of water dropped on the fire by June 17. As of the latest update, the firefighting efforts include 2 crews, 3 helicopters, and 1 water tender, with a total of 109 personnel on the ground. The challenging terrain and the fire's remote location have limited access, necessitating the use of aerial resources for effective firefighting.
