Whitetail Fire Active 2026

The Whitetail Fire in Edwards County started on August 28, 2026, under elevated fire conditions. Texas A&M Forest Service was requested to provide assistance in the form of additional firefighters, aircraft and heavy equipment at 5:00 pm. Texas A&M Forest Service is currently in unified command with local departments.

Update - August 28, 2026 - 7:00 pm - The fire remains at 20% and firefighters remain on scene. The left flank of the fire is more active. 

Update - August 28, 2026 8:20 pm - The fire is now 20% contained and engines are mopping up the head of the fire and left flank.
