Silver Fire Active 2026
Silver Fire has burned 60 acres, burning 24 miles north of Ponderay.
Latest update
The Silver Fire was detected on the morning of August 23rd, after a thunderstorm the night before produced multiple lighting fires across the region. Two other lighting fires in the immediate area, Silver Dollar 2 and Middle Silver Fires, have exceeded initial attack efforts and merged with the Silver Fire. The fire is burning in the subalpine zone in rocky terrain on the southeast side of Silver Dollar Peak, near Roman Nose. Initial attack included aerial water drops from heavy helicopters and the insertion firefighters to suppress the fires. Wind, topography and the thick vegetation are challenging suppression efforts.
Fire activity is increasing and aerial resources are delivering water on the fire. A temporary flight restriction over the fire area has been established to protect airspace and prioritize suppression actions. Drones are strictly prohibited in TFR's and wildfire areas. If you fly, we can't!
