Bear Fire (AZFTA)

Wildfire Status:

The Bear Fire, which ignited on June 8, 2024, near Cibecue, Arizona, has shown signs of moderation in its activity, with 81% of its perimeter currently contained. The fire has burned approximately 447 acres, primarily through brush consisting of pinon-juniper and ponderosa pine timber. As of June 16, the fire management transitioned from the Type 3 Incident Management Team to a Type 4 organization, indicating a reduction in the urgency of the situation.

Firefighting efforts have involved 189 personnel who are actively engaged in securing containment lines and conducting mop-up operations. Minimal fire behavior was observed, with expectations that this trend will continue. The outlook for the next 12 to 48 hours suggests low potential for fire spread, bolstered by the improved containment lines. Planned actions also include suppression repair operations to further stabilize the area.

Weather conditions are a significant factor in the ongoing suppression efforts. For the upcoming weekend, above-normal temperatures are forecasted, reaching into the upper 90s, with relative humidity dropping to single digits. Winds from the southwest are expected to be breezy, ranging from 6 to 10 mph. There is no anticipated precipitation, although a slight increase in humidity is possible due to weak moisture intrusion on Monday.
