Wildfire Status:

The Horton Fire, which ignited on December 14, 2024, in the Tonto National Forest near Promontory Point, has spread to the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. As of the latest update, the fire has consumed 8,346 acres and is currently 94% contained. The fire's active management involves a Complex Incident Management Team, which was deployed as the situation escalated in complexity. Firefighters have faced significant challenges due to the steep and rugged terrain on the Mogollon Rim, which has complicated direct firefighting efforts.

Currently, ground and aerial resources are working to suppress the fire and maintain containment lines established around key areas, including Promontory Butte and Horton Creek drainage.
