Bear Fire (AZFTA)

Wildfire Status:

The Bear Fire, which ignited on June 8, 2024, is currently located approximately 5 miles southwest of Cibecue, Arizona. As of June 16, 2024, the fire has burned an area of 447 acres, with 81% of its perimeter now contained. Fire activity has moderated significantly, and minimal fire behavior has been observed recently. The transfer of command from the White Mountain Zone Type 3 Incident Management Team to a Type 4 organization indicates a shift towards stabilization and containment efforts.

Currently, there are 189 personnel actively engaged in firefighting efforts. Their primary focus is on securing containment lines and conducting mop-up operations to enhance fire control. The outlook suggests that fire spread potential remains low due to the ongoing suppression activities and improvements in containment lines. However, the forecast indicates hot and dry conditions over the weekend, with daytime temperatures reaching the upper 90s and relative humidity dropping into single digits.

Weather conditions are a critical factor in the firefighting efforts. The area is experiencing above-normal temperatures and dry conditions, presenting challenges for the fire response teams. Winds from the southwest are expected to be breezy, ranging between 6 to 10 mph. There is no expected precipitation; however, a slight increase in relative humidity may occur on Monday due to weak moisture intrusion. Despite these conditions, the fire response teams remain focused on minimizing potential fire activity and ensuring the safety of the surrounding communities.
