Riley Fire
Wildfire Status:
As of July 14, 2024, the Riley Fire, located approximately one mile north of the entrance to Denali National Park and Preserve in Alaska, is fully contained. The fire, which was first reported on June 30, 2024, burned through 436 acres of black spruce, alder, and birch in steep terrain, but fortunately did not threaten any structures. Following evacuation orders issued for nearby park employees and a temporary closure of the park, normal operations resumed on July 10, allowing visitors back into the area.
Currently, a small team of five firefighters remains on site to monitor the fire area for any potential flare-ups. Fire agencies are employing drone technology to identify and address any remaining hot spots near the fire lines. The suppression plan has been evaluated and implemented to ensure that the fire does not pose any future threats to infrastructure or the surrounding environment.
With 100% of the fire perimeter contained, the focus is now on monitoring and recovery efforts to mitigate any erosion or fire activity in the aftermath. All remaining closures have been lifted, allowing full access to previously restricted areas.
