Marsh Creek (MTHLF)

Wildfire Status:

The Marsh Creek wildfire, located approximately 12 miles southeast of Lincoln, Montana, is currently active, having started on August 27, 2024. As of now, the fire spans about 151 acres, but it is only 0% contained. The Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest has deployed aviation and local resources to combat the fire, with a total of 12 personnel assigned to the incident. The fire is burning through dense timber, including both live and beetle-killed trees, as well as dead and downed vegetation.

Fire agencies are focusing on hazardous fuels removal to protect nearby communities, particularly in the Canyon Creek area, situated roughly 3 miles east of the fire. Crews have successfully reduced fuel loads in critical areas such as the North Fork of the Prickly Pear drainage and McQuithy Gulch. Additionally, work is ongoing in the South Fork of Poorman drainage, which is also close to residential properties. Recent weather conditions, including rainfall, have aided firefighting efforts by reducing fire growth, but the potential for flare-ups remains due to the dense fuel sources.

There have been no significant growths in recent days, and agencies continue to prioritize safety by avoiding direct engagement with the fire in hazardous areas. Instead, they are utilizing aerial resources and ground crews to manage the situation.
