Jericho Mountain Fire (MTHLF)

Wildfire Status:

The Jericho Mountain Fire, reported on June 15, 2025, is currently active and has burned approximately 369 acres of heavy dead and down fuel about 5 miles south of MacDonald Pass. As of now, the fire remains at 0% containment, with the Northern Rockies Complex Incident Management Team 6, led by Incident Commander Rich Cowger, taking over management of the situation on June 21, 2025. The wildfire's response has involved multiple agencies, including the Forest Service, Montana DNRC, and local volunteer fire departments from Baxendale and Elliston.

In response to the fire, the Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s Office has issued an evacuation warning for residents along Rimini Road and all feeder roads south of Bear Gulch Road. Residents are advised to prepare for possible evacuation by packing essential items. Additionally, the Helena Ranger District has enacted a forest closure order in the area, emphasizing public safety and restricting access to certain trails and roads. A Temporary Flight Restriction is also in place over the fire zone to facilitate aerial firefighting efforts.

Fire managers are urging the public to exercise caution when in the vicinity of the fire. They recommend that individuals check current weather conditions and fire situations prior to engaging in outdoor activities. Fire officials are also reminding the public of their responsibility to properly maintain and extinguish campfires.
